Dr. Julio A. Peguero is Medical Director of Research at Oncology Consultants in Houston, Texas, the largest private cancer care practice in the city, with hospital affiliations across the Memorial Hermann Health System. He earned his medical degree at Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, completed his internal medicine residency at UT Dell Medical School, and finished a combined Medical Oncology fellowship at UT Medical Branch Galveston and MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2013, with training in Breast Medical Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, and Phase I research. He is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine.
Since joining Oncology Consultants in 2013 as Director of Research, Dr. Peguero has served as principal investigator on over 200 clinical trials, including first-in-human studies, with work presented at ASCO, ESMO, ASH, and AACR, and published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, The Lancet Oncology, and Blood. He is an early adopter of next-generation sequencing in precision oncology, and founder of zogen, the largest NGS test distributor in Mexico, as well as owner of Consultores en Oncología in Guadalajara, with additional clinics in Querétaro and Tijuana.
He is a board member of the Exigent Research Network and Chair of its Phase I committee, Director of the Oncology Consultants Academic Program for International Medical Graduates and was recently appointed to ASCO’s International Development and Education Award (IDEA) Steering Group.
